Global Delivery Network

Challenges

One of the benefits of outsourcing development and support is that you can take advantage of the lower labor costs outside the United States and extend the workday. Despite the hype, without close coordination, the offshore and nearshore teams can be a drag on productivity not boost it. At worst case, the whole model could fly apart. You need someone experienced with the global delivery model to make it perform in the best possible manner and not just lure you in by promising poorly-coordinated offshore development that does not deliver.

At SolGenie we use the offshore, nearshore, and hybrid delivery models and work with you on-site to meet your needs. You need someone who has experience coordinating a project run from multiple locations. You might not have the people or experience to do this; we do.

Offerings

With offices development centers in USA, Europe and India, we have persons in your time zone, close to your time zone (nearshore), and in 12 hours away (offshore). This is particularly important for support and administration, as the offshore staff can take down the system and do maintenance at 3:00 AM, hours before you have come into the office and before your customers need access to the system. It also lets us tap in expertise at less cost.
Stateside we:

  • Gather requirements
  • Conduct acceptance testing
  • Do the heavy-lift architecture and coordinate nearshore and offshore development.
  • Coordinate design with offshore architects to agree that best practices and the best technology are adopted and followed.
  • Communicate status with you and your executives.
  • Roll out the system to production.

Offshore and nearshore we:

  • Write code using pair programming to boost productivity and ensure a consistent approach.
  • Deploy a project manager to run the offshore team and conduct daily stand-up meetings (i.e., the Agile methodology) with those staff who work late into the night (This includes the offshore project manager and his or her team leaders.).
  • Conduct volume, unit, and functional testing.
  • Spend down-time honing our skills, on our nickel, not yours.
  • Release code into the build pipeline.

Benefits

Our approach to delivering your project is risk-averse and round-the-clock. It is a myth that one programmer can hand off working on a particular code module to someone stateside who will send it back to the offshore resource at the end of the day. We know that and have adapted our process to take a realistic approach. We have fine-tuned this technique with many projects under our belt to work on your project in an efficient manner in an extended work day; that part of the model does work.
When we come into the office in the morning, we review what the offshore staff has done earlier in the day and last night, working through any issues and updating status. After having coordinated with developers in all the development centers, we make we are on task to deliver the next code iteration, released every two weeks, per the Agile model.

All of this helps you:

  • Adopt the latest technology, so that what you system does not go out-of-date on day one.
  • Drive down costs by putting the right skills in the right location.
  • Speed delivery by working a 20-hour day.
  • Provide support when you need it, at the time you need it.
  • Add or take away from our pool of resources to keep costs in line yet deliver on time.

At SolGenie, we have adopted the Global Delivery model, as have other companies; we just do it better than most.
